Renewal Policies and Procedures

Reauthorization course

The CERTA Train-the-trainer Reauthorization course is significantly different than the original 10-hour Train-the-trainer course. Participants will advance their training and facilitation skills and receive specific training on the requirements of the torch applicator recertification class. The CERTA Train-the-trainer Reauthorization course is a six and one-half hour program that runs from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and includes a working lunch.

Prerequisites for attending the reauthorization class:

  1. Applicants must have passed the original 10-hour CERTA Train-the-trainer Authorization course.
  2. Applicants must have maintained their ability to use a roofing torch since their original training.
  3. Applicants must have conducted a formalized training class within 12 months before the expiration of his/her authorized status. (For example, a foreman who regularly delivers "Toolbox Talks" would qualify.)

NRCA recommends completing the CERTA Train-the-trainer Reauthorization course before your original authorized status expires.

Authorized status expiration

A CERTA trainer's authorized status expires three years after his original training date. NRCA will send a reminder notice via email regarding renewal requirements to all authorized CERTA trainers before their eligibility expires.

It is the direct responsibility of all authorized CERTA trainers to notify their employers of pending expiration.

Program note: NRCA will send a reminder notice regarding renewal requirements to the employers of all certified torch applicators before their eligibility expires.
